Centenary Foursomes 2019

Thursday 15th August, 2019

Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club

It is said that the sun shines on the righteous and so it did all day on the 88 ladies taking part in this year’s final.

Although breezy, the day was nigh on perfect, as were the lightening fast greens (double ironed no less!), which fooled everyone out there.  The par 3s are also tough at Brok and all these factors accounted for the relative low scores recorded.

However, all at the wonderful New Forest course were especially welcoming; the small group of volunteer members were out early at 6.00am tidying and raking all the bunkers and Pam & John Capon continued their gardening work making the club so presentable and tidy.  Lady Captain, Rita Gregory had her ladies offering refreshments on the 1st and at the Sett on the 12th and she provided 4 starters for the day.  Your generosity in her raffle made over £200 for Oakhaven Hospice Trust and hopefully the donations out on the course boosted this too.

It was close at the top with Sandra Mahoney and Allena Doley from Meon Valley runners-up with 31 points and our winners Barbara Wareham and Liz Styles from Hayling (pictured below) with 32 points.

As ever, Brokenhurst Manor was the perfect host and the Management of Kevin Light and Mark Gillard were wonderful with help before the event and on the day – our grateful thanks to you both and all your greenkeeping, catering & bar staff and those in the shop.  The 3 tee start was an ingenious idea as all tee’d off within 56 minutes and so  could eat together.

Thanks again to our stalwart referees, Di Stock and Jackie Keay, out on the course, keeping everything moving (a few slow groups!!) and assisting with rule queries – some plugged balls after yesterday’s deluge!
