FOURSOMES MEETING 2015
TUESDAY, 21 JULY
AT ROMSEY GC
(18-hole Foursomes Stableford for pairs with a combined handicap between 31 & 60)
Our hugely enjoyable 2015 Foursomes Stableford Meeting took place on a lovely summer’s day at Romsey GC on Tuesday, 21 July. We could not have been made more welcome or have been better looked after. I thought we arrived on the early side, but Romsey and coffee were already there to greet us. Thank you to all the members and staff for looking after our every need throughout the day.
Despite some traffic problems the field got away in good time and many thanks to all competitors who, either over the weekend before the event or actually on the day, so cheerfully and willingly agreed to change start times to help others. With the very dry summer it has been, Romsey was perhaps at its most difficult – the ground was hard and this made some fairways seem even narrower than usual. The greens were lovely – not to be confused with easy! Scoring was certainly not easy. However, there are always players whose day it is, and the trophy and prizewinners clearly found very few difficulties in their rounds. Two pairs tied on an excellent 39 points, but sadly one couple had to be content to be runners-up. Royal Winchester’s Judy Ames and Sue Hitchen are always a good foursomes partnership, but on the day their 20 back nine points lost out to the 22 on the back nine carded by this year’s trophy winners Denise Liddle & Sandra Kendall from Liphook. Denise and Sandra had never before taken part in an HLCGA event but I’m sure they enjoyed the experience and that we will see them often in the future. Many congratulations to all our prizewinners on excellent scores – no sign from them of it being a “most difficult format: golf plus guilt = foursomes”.
Everyone enjoyed the day both on and off the course, which was not difficult to do when you set eyes on the lovely buffet which Romsey GC had prepared and put before us. Very many thanks all at the club for their warm hospitality, and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Full results information via the links below.
