CENTENARY FOURSOMES FINALS 2015
WEDNESDAY, 12 AUGUST
AT SHERFIELD OAKS GC
(18-hole Stableford foursomes final entered by clubs who hold a club competition to establish their representatives)
The sun came out for the later starters as Sherfield Oaks welcomed 44 pairs of Hampshire ladies to its Wellington course for this year’s Centenary Foursomes finals. We welcomed back two teams from Jersey who flew in especially and three stalwart teams from the Isle of Wight who made the ferry crossing. The two tee start worked well and all the ladies playing commented on the true and fair greens and the good quality of the course in general.
As the morning progressed, a tricky breeze prevailed making for some interesting scores. As so often in foursomes, some pairings took advantage of it whilst others struggled producing a wide range of scores. In the end it was very tight at the top with only a point between the top nine places. Sadly the count back meant that Gosport & Stokes Bay, Southwood and hosts Sherfield Oaks narrowly missed out on a place in the top six. Basingstoke, Royal Winchester and Cams Hall, all with 37 points, won prizes. The placement of the top three also had to be determined on count back but a fantastic back nine score of 21 points carded by Rosemary Murray and Bubs Swann meant that the top prize went to Blacknest with Waterlooville in 2nd place and Boscombe in 3rd.
The day was enjoyed by everyone. A big thank you to Lady Captain Lesley Brigden who, together with her team of helpers, ensured that the day ran smoothly. The full results can be viewed/downloaded by clicking here.
