1st Team v Meon Valley Men

1st team_v_Meon Valley13th March, 2016. It was good to get our first warm-up match underway and we couldn’t have picked a better day as the weather was kind. As usual it was a warm welcome from the Meon Valley team as we all arrived ready for the days play. The format was to be 4BBB over 9 holes in the morning followed by 18 holes of greensomes/foursomes after lunch. In fairness to the range of handicaps in the Meon Valley team it was agreed that the match would take into account handicaps and not be played as a scratch match, as in previous years.
After the morning session, where some great golf had already been played by both teams, the ladies took a lead of 2.5 to 1.5. However, the Men were keen for revenge in the afternoon and after 3 of the afternoon matches had been completed, the overall scores were tied. The final match on the course was level after 16 holes, and one of the best shots I have seen for a very long was played by George Roberts on the 17th, who put his 2nd shot to within 4 foot of the pin to set up a win on this hole. George and his partner also won the final hole to complete the victory for their Meon Valley team.
A most enjoyable meal followed the match, which had been played in a great spirit. Thank you to Meon Valley’s Club Captain, Bill Hughes and Wayne Brackstone for their organisation and invitation.
