SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016
Thursday 14 JULY
Corhampton Golf Course
120 ladies from 30 Hampshire and IOW clubs took part starting at 8.30am, just 2 hours after Monty tee’d off in the Open at Royal Troon. Like the Open venue, conditions were calm and sunny for most of the day and despite one of the largest fields in recent years, all got round in good time and nearly half stayed for the presentation of the prizes.
Despite the good conditions it proved difficult to score low and hence the CSS rose to 75. This will mean cuts in handicaps for several ladies who did manage to nett par or better.
Highlight of the day for Jo Youngs from Blacknest, was her wonderful achievement of a hole in one on the par 3 125 yard 11th – many congratulations Jo and thank you for your generosity back in the bar.
Lady Captain at Corhampton Gill Cooper had done sterling work mustering her team of ball spotters and starters for over 5 hours of tee times and also raised £356 for the Elizabeth Foundation charity. Thank you for all your help today Gill – it was very much appreciated. Indeed all the staff at Corhampton made this year’s event memorable so thank you all from the course preparation, the very appetising buffet afterwards and the friendly welcome.
Seniors’ Captain Deb Prince presented the prizes and all 3 divisions had fine winners so congratulations to you all. Annie Wortley from Meon Valley is the new Nett Trophy winner but it was Jane Bennett from Lee-on-the-Solent who has done the double this year winning not only today with the lowest gross score of 81 but earlier in May she walked away with the gross trophy in the Veterans’ event. A terrific effort Jane and well done from all of Hampshire ladies.
