And who said sport wasn’t a rollercoaster? Well the Hampshire Girls and support team had front row seats today and it was some ride!!
The day started with our Match against an ever strong Surrey Team full of low to mid single handicap players. We knew we were in for a tough morning and the result could easily show this but boy did we give them a fright with majority of matches going up the stretch with a prime example being Ciara Stocks playing in her first ever JCMW singles match. It was not until the 16th tee did she find herself down in the match for the first time, playing a scratch match against a girl 11 shots lower. Maybe the enormity of the situation got her a little, Ciara would soon put that right in the afternoon matches.
Captain Georgina Salvaged a fantastic half point on the 18th.
Over Lunch, Coach Kevin Flynn and i asked the girls if they wanted to play again and every single one of them put their hand up. We both sensed a turning of belief in the squad.
Again being led out the front by Beth Goater, the team set about the afternoon match against old rivals Kent in a new found confident manner. The majority of the girls soon found themselves up in their respective matches……..new territory and emotions to deal with!
They dealt with it brilliantly holding out for a 4-3 win, with convincing wins for Amelia Williams, Georgina Carter, Lucy O’Herlihy and Ciara Stocks.
Well done Girls, proud of you all and the efforts you put in today.
