High tide this morning was just 5 minutes after the first pair of Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) and HLCGA Vice Captain Debbie Tapply (Rowlands Castle) teed off in a bitter NE wind that persisted all day.
Conditions were brutal for all with 5 of the first 6 Championship first round players succumbing on the 14th hole. This mean’t that the winners had a decent lunch break before their quarter finals.
Things were slightly tighter in the quarter-finals in the Challenge Salver and it took until the 21st hole for Diana Littler (Rowlands Castle) to beat Julie Newbold (Royal Winchester).
Extra holes were needed to separate two of the other matches in the Challenge Bowl quarter-finals so quick turnarounds at lunch were had by most.
It got slightly warmer late afternoon as all started to come in exhausted from the battering.
Mis-heard quote of the week so far…Stand-in starter announcing the players said “First on the tee” and NOT “First in the SEA!!”
