Division 1 – Championship (Handicaps + to 9)
36 hole medal qualifier Wednesday 15th May 2019
16 best scratch scores qualify for the knockout scratch match play Thurs & Fri
On a very warm day the 33 ladies in the Championship started their two rounds and after the morning round the scores again reflected the difficult conditions prevailing and the CSS rose to 75. Good scores of 74 from Kerry Smith (Waterlooville), 77 for Louise Caplen (Stoneham) and 78 by Tammy Andrews (Corhampton) set the pace.
Afternoon scores showed improvements and there was a informal prize to inspire the most improved player. This went to Jane Scott (recent past County Captain) from Alresford who ditched her caddy for the afternoon and carded a much better afternoon score!
Today’s play saw our Division 1 players set off on a fresh but sunny day with the keen breeze providing some testing conditions.
Excellent play resulted in Kerry Smith (Waterlooville), Beth Shippin (Army), Louise Caplen (Stoneham) and Aimee Paterson (North Hants) progressing to tomorrow’s semi-finals starting at 8.30am.
A view up the first at Hockley
After an exciting semi-final Louise Caplen beat Aimee Paterson on the 4th extra hole with a birdie 4. The final commenced at 1.15 with Kerry as the other finalist having won her match with Beth Shippin.
Both matching each other shot for shot out there and was all square after the 5th but Kerry then went up a gear at 6 and was 4 up after 11.
Our grateful thanks to Dorothy Shore out on the course keeping the Facebook updated hole by hole and making all feel part of the drama. Also, despite being in the US, former Press Officer Hannah Holloway, had set up instantaneous match results, so was only up to the operators to keep up-to-date with the input of matchplay results as they happened.
