Division 2 – Challenge Salver (Handicaps 10 – 15)
18 hole medal qualifier Monday 13th May 2019
16 best nett scores qualify for the knockout match play Weds – Fri
The sun continued to shine on the Salver players in their quarter and semi finals; there were a number of very close matches throughout the day with Bridget Moore from Meon Valley and Karen Hirst from Lee-on-the-Solent emerging triumphant. They will meet at 8.50 on Friday morning for their final.
A gloomy day in comparison with what we have been used to here at Hockley all week, turned into a chilly one by the 11th hole and the few spectators out on the course were of the hardy type! The 10th saw Karen hit a sweet shot right of the hole, up onto the bank and then round again to finish 12 ft from the hole in 2 while Bridget hit to within 8 ft from the front, left bunker for 3. Karen two putted to get back to 2 down.
Bridget went onto win by 3&2 and is this year’s Challenge Salver Champion. Congratulations to Bridget and well done to all players both on Monday and those here during the matchplay encounters.
Special thanks to Doug Tate, Course Manager and his marvellous team of greenkeepers who have had a tough week maintaining this magnificent course with very little help from the sky above. Let’s hope you get some rain soon for the course Doug!
