Following last year’s cancellation Hampshire were able to host the above event, on behalf of England Golf, finally in July 2021.

This event was held at Hartley Wintney GC on Friday 23rd July 2021, with the format of 36 hole stroke play or 18 holes for Under 13s only and what a day it was!

The blistering heat from the previous 3 days had subsided and some of the top players from around the South of England arrived at Hartley Wintney GC to be greeted by warm sunny conditions with a welcome gentle breeze.  We were treated to some fantastic golf and the winners on the day were as follows:-

  • Scratch Champion – Ellie Monk, Sunningdale GC (145)
  • Scratch Runner Up – Brandy Rook, Royal Eastbourne GC (148 c/b)
  • 3rd Scratch – Kerry Smith, Waterlooville GC (148)
  • Handicap Champion – Tilly Lawson, North Hants GC (nett 144)
  • Handicap Runner Up – Milli Greener, Walton Heath GC (nett 147)
  • U18 Scratch Winner – Alexandra Phelps, Woking GC (154)
  • U18 Handicap Winner – Jenny Myers, Alresford GC (nett 149)
  • U16 Scratch Winner – Ellie Monk, Sunningdale GC (145)
  • U16 Handicap Winner – Tilly Lawson, North Hants GC (nett 144)
  • U14 Scratch Winner – Saskia Owen, Bush Hill Park GC (165)
  • U13 Scratch Winner – Skye Fontanelli, Faversham GC (172)
  • U13 Handicap Winner – Skye Fontanelli, Faversham GC (nett 150)
  • Winner AM Scratch – Imogen Courtney, West Hill GC (71 – new course record)
  • Winner PM Scratch – Gemma Burgess, North Hants GC (71 – equal AM course record)
  • County Scratch Shield – Surrey (Ellie Monk 145, Canice Screen 149 & Imogen Courtney 152)

With the relative calm conditions in the morning the previous course record of 74 was certainly under threat.  Whilst the new course record was eventually claimed by Imogen Courtney with a superb 71 there were 4 others who shot sub 74 rounds in the morning (Canice Screen & Nicola Smith both 72 and Kerry Smith & Ellie Monk both 73).  This was followed in the afternoon by Gemma Burgess who equalled the new course record of 71 in her afternoon round.  As if that wasn’t enough, 12 year old Annabel Peaford from Walton Heath GC managed a hole in 1 on the 17th in her afternoon round, her first ever ace!

A massive thank you goes to General Manager, Adam Bodimeade and his team at Hartley Wintney GC for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities.

A very successful day and next year’s event will be hosted by Middlesex.
