North Hants Trophy Finals Day – Wednesday 29th September 2021

This year’s Finals Day for the North Hants Trophy was slightly different as the semi-finals of the Plate event were also included on the final day.   The teams competing for the trophy were North Hants, Brokenhurst, Army and Hockley and for the Plate event the teams were Corhampton, Romsey, Rowlands Castle and Shanklin & Sandown.

In the first semi-final Brokenhurst were represented by Sam Gregory, Alice Webb and Debbie Gregory while Aimee Paterson, Georgina Carter and Gemma Burgess represented North Hants.   The North Hants team were all in fine form and won their matches convincingly.     In the other semi-final Hockley were represented by Helen Bailey, Judie Lewis and Chris Quinn and the Army were represented by Audrey Rowley, Helen Sleightholme and Ailsa Fraser.   Similar to the first semi-final Hockley won all three matches to take them through to the final.

The semi-finals of the North Hants Plate followed these matches with Corhampton, represented by Jenny Readman, Stevie Crozier-Hunt and Tammy Andrews, taking on Rowlands Castle represented by Debbie Tapply, Lisa Mitchelmore and Shirley Stanton.   The first two matches went Corhampton’s way and so the third match was called in on the 15th.   In the other semi-final Shanklin & Sandown were represented by Debbie Berry, Dawn Hodge and Catherine Bachelor and Romsey were represented by Sara Barnes, Julie Cole and Geraldine Pringle.   Julie Cole recorded the first result with a win and then Shanklin won the match between Sara and Debbie but Geraldine Pringle came through her match to put Romsey through to the final.

A quick lunch time turnaround and the afternoon final between North Hants and Hockley started at 1.30pm.    The first match between Aimee Patterson (North Hants) and Chris Quinn (Hockley) was very exciting with never more than 2 holes between them and at the turn Chris was one up.     The next three holes were halved and then Aimee won the next hole to get it back to all square.   However, Chris went ahead winning the next hole and remained one up until Aimee tied the match by winning the 17th hole and went on to birdie the last to take the match.   In the second match Georgina Carter (North Hants) won 4/3 against Judie Lewis (Hockley) giving North Hants the trophy.   The final match between Gemma Burgess (North Hants) and Rachel Grunnerg (Hockley) also went North Hants way so they retained the Trophy.

In the Plate Final the match between Julie Cole (Romsey) and Stevie Crozier-Hunt (Corhampton) was a close contest with Julie winning on the 16th hole.   Tammy Andrews (Corhampton) tied the match by defeating Geraldine Pringle so it all hung on the final match between Jenny Readman (Corhampton) and Sara Barnes (Romsey) which Jenny won on the final hole for Corhampton to take the Plate trophy.
