Championship Week 2022

Championship week always has a story or two to tell, whether it is horrific weather or holes in one there is always something noteworthy.

This year, at glorious Alresford golf course, was no exception. On the morning of the Championship Final a very large and very yellow hot air balloon floated towards Alresford eventually landing on the 17th fairway. Both the referees and the Manager were consulted over local rules that might include hot air balloons! Fortunately it was removed before it came into play.

The Championship Final between Jen Hide from Stoneham GC and Kerry Smith from Waterlooville GC was made even more exciting by the facility of live scoring, which kept all interested parties up to date with hole by hole scores. The golf was the usual high standard that you would expect for a Championship Final with Kerry Smith emerging as the victor.

The losing semi- finalists in the Championship was Georgina Carter from North Hants GC and Rosie Rooney from Alresford GC.

Jen Hide won Best Gross for 36 holes with a score of 150

It was a great week of golf and the weather stayed mostly on our side. Alresford GC did us proud and everyone loved the condition and lay out of the course. We are all extremely grateful to Alresford for allowing us such access to this wonderful course. HLG are also very grateful to Ladies Captain Jan Harring and her team of very able starters and ball spotters. Jan was amazing and her support and behind the scenes hard work were thoroughly appreciated.  HLG are also grateful to all the referees who gave of their time to ensure that everything was above board …….next year we are going on tour and going abroad to Shanklin and Sandown on the IOW so make sure you all enter.
