Hampshire Mixed Greensomes – Thursday 23rd June 2022 – Hartley Wintney GC

What a panic on Wednesday 22nd June to read the yellow weather warning for the WHOLE of the South of England!  Violent thunderstorms were predicted and rain of epic proportions.  But what the Met Office failed to state was that Hartley Wintney has a micro climate all of its own, and for that the 30 pairs who had entered the Hampshire County and Hampshire Ladies Golf Mixed Greensomes were eternally grateful.

It turned out to be a very fine day, if a tad muggy, and most people managed to cope well with the early start. Possibly made even earlier by the fact that there weren’t any trains running and the roads were perhaps a bit more clogged up than usual.

A two-tee start meant that the players were rolling home in good time for an absolutely delicious two course meal, which saw an excellent buzz in the club house. At this point we must extend a very very warm thanks to all the team at Hartley Wintney GC whose welcome and continued hospitality were second to none.

Whilst on the subject of appreciation, many thanks as always go to the fantastic referees Jackie, Carron and Stuart, who marshalled the field well and to the volunteers from the golf club who acted as starters and ball spotters.

The winners from today were as follows:

4th place with a score of 43 points OCB were local players Julie Daniels and Paul Murphy

3rd place with a score of 43 points OCB from Romsey GC were Julie and Gary Cole.

2nd place with a score of 44 points OCB from Cams Hall Estate GC were Gina and Michael King.

And this year’s Mixed Greensomes’ Winner with 44 points were Nicky Mackenzie from Stoneham GC and Richard Arnold from Hockley GC.
