Umbrellas and waterproofs were needed as the second team match between Hampshire and Middlesex got underway at Meon Valley Golf and Country Club. Our golf courses definitely need the rain at the moment but thankfully the showers were light and not persistent.
An on form young Hampshire team did not let the weather dampen their enthusiasm and played some terrific golf against an experienced Middlesex. Becky Scott and Georgina Carter finished their match early winning 7 and 6 but the other foursomes games were much closer affairs. Great credit to Jenny Myers and Hannah Dymott who birdied the eighteenth to halve their game. Scores level at lunchtime.
The afternoon singles proved to be just as exciting. Becky won early and Hannah played par golf to win her game on the eleventh. G battled to half her match and so Hampshire needed just one more point, but the result could still go either way. Step up Stevie Crozier-Hunt in her first Stovold Trophy appearance for Hampshire! Her 2 and 1 victory saw Hampshire win by 5 games to 4. What a tense tussle.
Huge thanks to Meon Valley GC for hosting at very short notice, to Rose from Middlesex for her flexibility as arrangements changed, and to the supporters who came along to cheer Hampshire on. Special mention goes to County Captain, Jill England, whose help was invaluable before and especially on the day of the match.
Your club did us proud Jill, as did our fantastic team of youngsters.
