- Wednesday, 29th May 2019 v Berkshire way at Temple GC
Temple GC provided a tough challenge for the annual 2nd Team friendly v Berkshire on Wednesday 29th May. After a close morning foursomes session, Hampshire trailed 2 – 1 and we were all greeted on the tee in the afternoon with heavy rain! Despite the difficult conditions, there was some excellent golf played and the matches were very closely fought. We couldn’t quite pull back the morning deficit and the end result was a narrow 5 – 4 defeat. Well played everyone but good to get everyone together ahead of the league matches which start in July.

Stovold Trophy Matches
- Thursday, 11th July 2019 v Sussex home at Meon Valley GC
- Thursday, 18th July 2019 v Surrey away at West Surrey GC
- Tuesday 6th August 2019 v Kent away at Knole Park GC
- Thursday 22nd August 2019 v Middlesex home at Hartley Wintney GC
Our first Stovold Trophy match was at home to Sussex on Thursday 11th July. The match was played at Meon Valley. A strong team included Sammi Keen bringing her 1st team experience plus a Stovold debut for Tammy Andrews. We won the morning foursomes 2 – 1 and with the singles being halved 3 – 3 we gained an overall win 5 – 4. A nice way to start the competitive season.
Our 2nd Stovold match saw us travel to West Surrey GC on Thursday 18th July and the light rain forecast for the morning turned into somewhat heavy rain! The players battled through the weather to come out level at 1 ½ – 1 ½ at lunchtime. In the afternoon singles a very strong Surrey team turned on the style winning 5 of the 6 matches thus winning overall 6 ½ to 2 ½.

We went to Kent for our 3rd match and congratulations to the team of Elaine, Deirdre, Sammi, Aileen, Jane Bennet and Tammy on a fantastic 6 ½ to 2 ½ win at Knole Park GC on Tuesday 6th August.
They were watched by some interested spectators on the 1st in the afternoon!
Final Stovold match and a possible clincher is against Middlesex on 22nd August.
On a gloriously sunny day at Hartley Wintney GC the 2nd team comprising of Becky Scott, Sammi Keen, Sarah Deacon, Deirdre Randall, Ailean Simpson and Dawn Hodge took on Middlesex knowing a win could give them an outside chance of winning the Stovold Trophy. The morning foursomes went according to plan and a 3 – 0 lunchtime lead gave the team a huge lift for the afternoon singles. Another excellent session saw us winning the singles 4 ½ to 1 ½ and therefore an overall victory by 7 ½ to 1 ½.
A fantastic way to end the 2019 season having played 4, won 3 and lost 1 of our Stovold Trophy matches. Whilst it wasn’t quite good enough to bring the trophy back to Hampshire it secured a very respectable runners up place to eventual winners Surrey.
Well done to everyone who has played in the team and represented Hampshire so well this year.
